Republic Cement & Building Materials, Inc. (RCBM) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) recently signed a memorandum of agreement that aims to provide employment opportunities for returning Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

Republic Cement supports the national government’s efforts to address the various issues facing the country’s labor sector, particularly job and skills mismatch,” said RCBM President Renato Sunico. “The company will be working with the DOLE to develop employment and skills matching for eligible OFWs,” Sunico added.

The construction industry is one of the country’s top employment-generating sectors according to DOLE Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz. Despite the availability of vacancies, however, Baldoz said that job seekers may not necessarily have the required skills and qualifications.

To help bridge this skills gap, DOLE is collaborating with the private sector to implement various job-generating and employment matching initiatives. The partnership agreement between RCBM and DOLE is part of the launch of the enhanced PhilJobNet, the government’s official job search, job matching, and labor market information portal.

Under the agreement, private companies such as RCBM identify various manpower vacancies within their organizations and have these posted on the PhilJobNet portal.  Interested applicants, returning OFWs in particular, may then search, view, and apply for these postings. RCBM initially provided a listing of 86 job openings for its Group—26 for technical positions and 60 for office-based work—that will be posted on PhilJobNet.

With this initiative, we hope to provide access to employment opportunities for our returning OFWs within the Republic Cement organization,” said Sunico.

The PhilJobNet portal now also features a mobile phone friendly application that provides for optimal viewing and seamless interactivity, while allowing linkages to users’ social media accounts.

The RCBM Group has a nationwide manufacturing network with plants in Norzagaray, Bulacan; Teresa in Rizal; Taysan, Batangas; Danao in Cebu; and, Iligan City in Mindanao. It also operates an aggregates plant in Bulacan. Republic Cement maintains a broad national supply and distribution envelope of key dealers to address the exacting demands of its broad clientele that ranges from multibillion-peso construction and building conglomerates to individual homebuilders.
