Republic Cement Donates Cement for Stronger Territorial Presence in Batanes

Republic Cement and Building Materials, Inc. President Renato C. Sunico was flown into Batanes, together with the North Luzon Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines led by AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero in order to sign a Memorandum of Agreement with Batanes Provincial Governor Marilou H. Cayco about building a fishing shelter off Mavulis island.

With this development, Ivatan fishermen can take refuge during storms and improve their haul in the northernmost part of the country. Their constant presence also discourages intruders and illegal poachers from encroaching on Philippine territory, leading to stronger territorial presence in the West Philippine Sea. Towards this end, Republic Cement donated 1000 bags of cement.

“It is our (Republic Cement’s) privilege to be chosen as the official partner to help ensure the territorial integrity of our country, by supporting the courageous and hardworking Ivatan fisherfolk,” shared Mr. Sunico. “The safety of these men and women are our priority, in line with our corporate thrust to build stronger communities for a stronger Republic.”
